Review:

The blind heiress Oh Young(Song Hye-kyo)’s father die. And she’s brother Oh Soo(Zo In-sung) show up to her, he is a fake. He pretend to be a brother, who broke up as a child, because of the huge of heritage. As a gambler he is owed 780-million-won( $8 million ) underworld in amorous nets. He should die unless he pays off his debts in an instant. However, Oh Young don’t believe him. Ms. Wang, who was secretary to her father, was left what she became a blind. In fact, Ms. Wang is no more than a mother to Oh Young, and Oh Young knew her neglect. In addition, Oh Young’s fiance doesn’t love her. These wound make her, who unable to trust anyone. Oh Soo, who try to run away with her heritage, cannot help feeling sympathy for his fake sister. And it seems fated that they fall in love. That’s all I watched TV drama’s eight episodes.

This TV drama has an advantage, which run well without any big events. Of course, that is the hallmark of melodrama genre, however, there is another reason. Because of drama’s donne, which brother and sister met for the first time in 21 years. They have stayed separate for a long time. So they identify everyday objects such as eating with special thing. And it was not easy to window shopping in department store for blind sister. She have fetter called ‘blind’ and her brother became another fetter to her. Besides, Oh Young make one more fetter, which he can receive heritage after she died.

The theme of this drama is love or faith? I think that the major talking point, which constantly propounded through this drama, is ‘misery and hurt of human’. It was uncomfortable feeling during the entire the drama. I cannot stand this heaviness on my heart. In the drama , writer use card called ‘betrayal’ in order to maximize a little universal(?) misfortune, which they broke up as a child and brother should die unless he pay off his debuts 780-million-won.

As an aspiring writer I fall into endless envy and sense of shame, why I can’t write that, while watching the drama. I envy writer Noh Hee-kyung’s talent more than unworldly beauty of Song Hye-kyo in the screen. Is that talent given by itself like a beauty? Anyway, writer Noh Hee-kyung is among the top 5 drama writer in Korea. In retrospect, I didn’t see enough of the drama of writer Noh to form an opinion about it. I have never at least seen the famous drama “Foolish Love” or “Lie”. In the major television networks, I only saw several episode of ‘More Beautiful Than a Flower’ on time. It seems to be greatly influenced by her anemic ratings. I couldn’t write fine work, and I didn’t so much as see writer Noh’s good drama. Because I just average.

Good TV drama, such as ‘Dae Jang Geum’(2003) or ‘The Legendary Doctor – Hur Jun’(1999) or ‘Baker King, Kim Tak Goo’(2010), say as follow about misery of main character. “That’s all right. After a while, everything will be all right.” “Don’t cry. Everything will be okay.” “You should be brave.”. Of course, the main characters overcome difficulties. However, this drama ‘That Winter, the Wind Blows’ do not say so. Misery and hurt of human is no longer target to win. It is necessary for wounded spirit to comfort and rest. “You are not okay. You’d better cry.” “Tell me if it hurts. I will be with you.” I hope that someone find a mild consolation in this stuffy drama. So when everyone told, “We are very happy. Let’s work together, and everyone can have better life”. After seeing this drama, someone can say “In fact, I was sick, I was rather hurt. I really need to just rest and relax. Are you all right?”

‘그 겨울, 바람이 분다.’ 상처받은 당신에게

장님인 여주인공 오영(송혜교)의 아버지가 죽는다. 그런 그녀에게 가짜오빠 오수(조인성)가 나타난다. 거액의 유산 때문에 오수는 어릴 때 헤어진 오빠 행세를 한다. 오수는 겜블러로 최근에 여자문제로 78억이라는 거대 돈을 암흑가의 사람에게 빚을 지었다. 그 빚을 갚지 못하면 곧 죽어야 할 신세다. 하지만 오영은 그를 믿지 못한다. 그녀는 엄마처럼 따르는 아버지의 비서였던 여자가 자신의 눈을 멀게 하는데 책임이 있는 것을 안다. 게다가 약혼자는 자신을 사랑하지 않는다. 상처를 가지고 있는 영은 그 누구도 믿을 수 없다. 돈만 가지고 달아나려던 오수는 불행한 가짜 동생을 동정한다. 그리고 정해진 수순처럼 둘은 불행한 결말을 알면서 서로를 사랑하게 된다. 여기까지가 내가 본 8회까지의 줄거리다.

이 드라마의 장점은 이야기가 큰 사건 없이 잘 굴러간다는데 있다. 물론 범죄드라마나 스릴러가 아니고 멜로라는 장르의 특징이기도 하지만 또 다른 이유가 있다. 바로 남이었다가 21년만에 다시 만난 남매라는 드라마 설정 때문이다. 오랫동안 따로 살아온 남매는 밥 하나 같이 먹는 것도 특별하고 눈이 보이지 않는 동생 영은 백화점 구경하는 것 하나도 쉽지가 않다. 장님이라는 족쇄를 가진 그녀에게 오빠는 또다른 족쇄이다. 거기에다가 영은 자신이 죽어야 유산을 오빠 오수에게 주겠다는 족쇄를 하나 더 채운다. 거기에다가 영은 자신이 죽어야 유산을 오빠 오수에게 주겠다는 족쇄를 하나 더 채운다.

이 드라마의 주제가 사랑이나 믿음일까. 나는 이 드라마를 통해서 끊임없이 제기되는 화두는 바로 ‘인간의 불행과 상처’이라고 생각한다. 드라마를 보는 내내 불편한 이 느낌, 숨쉬기 힘들 정도로 답답해지는 가슴. <그 겨울, 바람이 분다>에서는 단순히 엄마가 일찍 죽었고 어린 시절 남매가 헤어졌고 78억의 돈을 갚지 못하면 사채업자에게 죽임을 당한다는 등의 다소 보편적인(?) 불행을 극대화시키기 위해서 작가가 ‘배신’이라는 카드를 제시한다.

작가지망생인 나는 이 드라마를 보며 나는 왜 이렇게 쓰지 못할까하는 자괴감과 끝없는 시기심에 빠진다. 화면속에 나타난 송혜교의 인간의 것이 아닌 것 같은 미모 보다 노희경작가의 재능이 더 부럽다. 재능은 미모처럼 그냥 주어진 것일까? 노희경작가는 드라마작가중에 TOP5중에 하나로 꼽을 수 있다. 그런데 생각해 보면 그 작가가 집필한 드라마를 제대로 본 게 없다. 하다못해 그 유명한 ‘바보 같은 사랑’이나 ‘거짓말’ 같은 것도. 공중파 방송에서 제시간에 본방을 본 것도 ‘꽃보다 아름다워’의 몇회가 유일하다. 아마 그녀의 저조한 시청률의 영향이 큰 것도 같다. 나는 좋은 드라마를 쓰지도 못하면서 그런 좋은 드라마도 보지 않는 그저 보통사람이니까.

‘대장금’ 이나 ‘허준’ 혹은 ‘제빵왕 김탁구’ 같은 성공을 지향하는 착한드라마들은 주인공의 불행에 이렇게 말한다. “괜찮아. 조금 지나면 다 괜찮을 거야.” “울지마, 모든 잘될 거야.” “너는 용감해져야 해.” 물론 주인공들은 모든 역경을 견디고 이겨내는 인간승리를 한다. 하지만 이 드라마는 그렇게 말하지 않는다. 인간의 불행과 상처는 더 이상 이겨내야 할 대상이 아니다. 상처받은 사람에게는 그저 위로와 잠깐의 휴식이 필요한 것이다. “괜찮지 않아. 넌 울 필요가 있어.” “아프면 말해. 같이 있어 줄께.” 어쩌면 지루하고 답답한 이 드라마에서 작은 위로를 찾는다면 좋겠다. 그래서 모두가 “우린 너무 행복해요. 열심히 살면 더 나아질 수있어요” 라고 말할 때, “사실 나 좀 아파, 상처받았어. 좀 쉴께. 너는 괜찮니?”라고 말할 수 있다면 좋겠다.
